Carved from a single block of wood without the use of power tools the carver followed his own instinct...all hallmarks of authentic and quality African art to my mind.
The highly abstract design of vertical and horizontal wooden struts is fascinating visually.... they look like leather straps.
Tye natural indentations on the surface of the stool and on the lip of the rim show the carver made this for his own use.... aesthetics in Africa concerning art is very different to Western aesthetics...the imperfection in natura and natural materials is accepted and even enjoyed in Africa.
The patina is soft, rich and deep and exceeding soft to the touch.
This is an honest and authentic stool that shall bring years of joy to any home.
