The Appraisal Process
I am very passionate about appraising contemporary art, antiques, rugs and rare objects of value. I am a USPAP compliant and professional appraiser who subscribes to both the Standards USPAP SR 8-3(a), Ethics, Competency Rules of Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP)
Working with clients I establish a stated and written purpose of every Appraisal Assignment to identify the subject property and characteristics relevant to value and marketability so that I could properly develop an opinion of replacement value. The opinion of replacement value of the appraised objects or collection are individually listed within each report as of the effective date of the appraisal.
These reports contain the appraisal-specific elements of information that are required to be included by the Uniform Standards of Professional Practice (USPAP) as promulgated by the Appraisal Foundation of Washington D.C.
The required item-specific information, including the identity and characteristics relevant to value and marketability of the subject property as well as my opinions of value are contained in my reports along with descriptions of the subject properties. Market data and further photos that served as a basis for my opinions of value are retained in an assignment work file.
In this process I determine very particular and unique facts concerning the artwork not limited to condition, origin as well as rarity. For interests’ sake I often elect to add further findings and analysis to many of the appraisal reports.
I appreciate that unique pieces of art can never really be replaced or even easily compared. I also acknowledge rarity of type can often pose unique difficulties in establishing value in esoteric areas of collecting and in the appraisal process. In addition, many pieces of art are highly important and sentimental to the owners and collectors.
To me art is very personal, and I understand for many collectors and owners it is as well. A good an ongoing professional relationship is how I approach my clients and their appraisal needs.
