Acquire, Sell & Consign with Us

Buying From or With Me

The process of learning about art, antiques, collectibles or rugs is a journey and takes time. With any journey it is practical experience and the process of comparing objects to other objects that allows one to decide what one wants to acquire.

It is often thought that a dealer buys an object and sells it to someone else. That may be an accurate description of the physical movement of a painting or an antique through its life cycle but that is only scratching the surface.

What a dealer really offers is years of free experience, knowledge and compounded experience with every item they sell. When you buy a lot of anything you become discerning, and one develops a 'trained eye' regarding quality and detail. Now one can have a 'good untrained eye' but the way to develop that is to look and touch a few thousand similar objects, learn about them and compare them all including regarding price.

The other interesting fact is the intangible learning that one undergoes and acquires when buying, selling or collecting art. Those very hard to put into words intuitions and gut reactions an experienced dealer or collector will act on that seems to come from nowhere but that later prove to have been a good call. The creation as well as the appreciation of any artistic creation is part art and part science and always shall be. To make it logical is to destroy it in my mind.

That is achievable if you have 20 -50 years that one is ready to commit oneself to. But for someone beginning to collect or who wants to build a serious collection or buy paintings or rugs and carpets for their home that is not feasible.

To work with dealers, art advisors and appraisers is like a short cut. Years of actual experience and not googling or asking AI the question but real experience where dealers and collectors have learned the hard way what not to buy and exactly what to buy is available to rely on when you work with a dealer.

Of course, dealers make our living in this way but often the cost of making a sound purchase by developing a professional relationship and friendships with professionals is ultimately less expensive and often the best way to go. In time you will be able to make good purchases based on your own acquired experience. I often look at photos people send me photos of objects they have found to buy elsewhere and or to sell. I am now buying art & objects from people who came to me many years when beginning their journey in the arts. I also buy many objects back from customers who bought from me many years ago.

Many dealers also have an innate ability to understand the art and select quickly the most outstanding objects in a shop, contemporary art show or on an outdoor field at 6 a.m. when looking at antiques. The best 'discerning eye' is comprised of ability plus experience.

Selling or Consigning to Me

All the above applies here equally well when it comes to selling or consigning to me for the purposes of selling. Dealers and collectors often have the greatest knowledge and experience and are willing to pay more.

These same dealers have a number of clients who frequent their business and are interested to buy and collect more of these specialized items. I am able to explain and describe to buyers what an object is, how it was made and why is it collectible as well as receive a fair price.

Dealers have international relationships and often the most active buyers for rare items of a very specialized nature are not in the U.S.A. This is true in many categories of collectibles.

There are so many good reasons to buy from and sell to a dealer that I could literally write a book on the subject but suffice it is to say here that it pays handsomely to work with a professional in any field including in the art and antique business.

To Work with Me

I offer an initial conversation and one further consultation at no cost to you if you should choose to. This is in order to understand your needs and determine exactly what you are looking for but if you are ready to consider purchasing immediately, we could proceed from that point immediately too.

Initially even more importantly than time frame, budget and other factors is I need to understand your individual requirements, experience and expectations concerning the art you wish to acquire. An initial communication followed by a consultation often makes it much easier for me to assist in fulfilling your needs and results in a much more productive outcome. It is possible to communicate via pictures and online but it's not as effective.

I offer and sell many wonderful objects which I very carefully vet and select. My experience, innate abilities and passion for art are represented in all that I set out for sale.

To discuss buying, selling, consigning or talk about your questions and specific needs regarding art and antiques in general please feel free to contact myself.
