Custom Order - Natural Dyes and Unbleached Wools

Inspired from an 18th Century Turkish village design our signature rugs and carpets are woven with unbleached Gazni wools and dyed with natural dyes. the ivories are totally undyed and glisten with health and vibrancy. The intense reds are created by using mature madder root and are boiled in highly saturated dye lots.

Most wool, even from the same skein or sheep, comes with a variety of colour fibers naturally in the wools. Ivory wool is often highly bleached by commercial wool spinning companies to remove the various strands of slightly darker wool fibers, but this process dries the wool out and strips the lanolin away. Lanolin protects the wool fibers and creates that silky feeling when you touch the surface of a rug or carpet.

Bleached snow-white wool is highly uniform and lacks character. Even more importantly it compromises the health of the wool and reduces the life of the rug drastically. It also reduces to a lesser experience of the rug in general in my opinion.

Commercial bleaches came into effect at the time of chemical dyes, somewhat around the end of last century. Rugs and carpets before were woven from wools that were a lot less chemically treated and today are highly sought after. I insist on weaving techniques and materials that allow for a quality, long lasting rugs and carpets - one that leads to a heightened experience. In short - I cut no corners.
