In the beautiful mountains of Swat near the Afghan border I found some amazing hand carved stone bowls.
I had seen the bowls in a local village and due to the language barrier I did not understand they were stone but thought they were fired ceramic.
The next morning I walked out the rustic hut I had slept in to find the man with the bowls sitting outside.He lifted the bowls out of a bucket of water and said “Stone” .. He had learned the English word overnight.
Apparently the bowls had been used to cook food in…charcoal beds were buried and the food steamed in these granite/basalt bowls that were covered placed on the hot coals under the earth.
I believe this bowl to be hundreds of years old and absolutely unique.
