A wonderful example of a chunky and thick antique Persian village rug, c.a. 1880 - 1910 from what is now the N.W. Persian city of Bijar in Persian Kurdistan.
Known as "The Iron Rug" contemporary Bijar rugs have wool pile on a cotton foundation while the older ones like this example have a wool pile on a wool foundation. The resulting sensation or "handle" is rich and velvety.
The patina and saturated colours on this rug are magnificent and all dyes are rich and deep natural dyes. this rug is a rug lovers' rug.
