A deeply patinated and authentic antique sculpture of Nandi with a Linga (Lord Shiva is often depicted riding on Nandi) from Karnataka, Southern India.
The base and sculpture show signs of being extensively worshipped and were probably moved around a home or small temple. The body of Nandi, the Holy Cow is smooth from use and displays a very pleasing form, symmetry and colour.
It has been in my collection for many years and was an ex-collection acquisition I obtained from a private collection formed in the 1960’s/70’s (original collection number #401)
