These antique chased and engraved bowls are traditionally considered to be “Beggars Bowls” by people visiting Asia but the truth is far more beautiful.
In reality bowls such as this one were used by Monks and pilgrims all over Asia to eat from when they travelled or on holy pilgrimages.They were worn on the monks belt and hung off the attached ring.Local people fed them as they recognized their bowls and by this act acknowledged the monks piety.
A deep, rich patina and a soft gentle glow radiate from the bowls surfaces. The surfaces itself has been worn gently with a lifetime of use and feels soft and comforting to the touch.
