Antique Hand-Carved Wooden Himalayan Bowl

Carved and turned from a single piece of wood this bowl originated in the foothills of the Himalayas.

The foothills of the Himalayas and Kashmir traditionally were a source for trees and so an experienced and elaborate wood carving culture developed.

Cares bowls such as these were used for storing foot stuff including fermented yogurts.

The fats in the milk also leaves a deep and rich patina and glow in the wood.

Most wooden objects were carved from a single piece of wood and none were created by power tools.
