Antique Carved Solid Wood Table from the Swat Valley

The Swat Valley in N.W. Pakistan near the Afghan Border is the gateway to Central Asia and the Himalayas.

The thick forests offered a historically rare source of hardwood in Asia and as result of this a legacy of cultural carving developed.

Utilitarian objects were all carved form wood as were buildings, doors and furniture.

This unique antique low table was used by the side of a low chair to hold tea, food and books.
