This unusual antique Shiva Mukhalinga sculpture from India with a very smooth worn patina due to veneration displays a pleasing hair arrangement seen on the back of the sculpture .The Mukhalinga is shown wearing a casket in the form of a Linga. The sub-sect of Lingayats wear such caskets.
This genuine spiritual sculpture has seen lots of use.It was used to cover and protect a sacred Lingam which is a symbol of energy of the creator.
I have had the sculpture in my collection for many years and before that it was in a private collection from about the 1960’s.
It bears an old collection number of #528 which I have left on.
