Another rare Bamileke stool that I am happy to offer here and one that meets my criteria of quality and aesthetics in this genre in which it is often difficult to ascertain or determine quality & authenticity.
1.Carved from a single block of hardwood (a characteristic of traditional African carving).
2.The stool has clearly been carved without the use of power tools and totally by hand...
turning any piece over and observing the back or inside will show axe marks.
3.Signs of spontaneous and unrehearsed creativity...unique designs, natural flaws and imperfections.
In the carving of this stool, I suspected the master carver did follow some kind of guideline as the design is complex and definite. The shape of the circular design as well as the shape, angle and size of the 'nodules' is complex and for such a uniform article to be created shows tremendous skill, effort & talent.
